We came for Songkran festival - the Thai version of New Years. There was plenty of street food - the Lao minced octopus on a stick was a hit. There was Pad Thai (Burmese version - so Pad Burma?) and of course fried chicken. Best of all - made fresh here in Australia - so no upset tummies (as has been the experience O/S). Particularly liked the sticky rice with taro or banana - cooked in a pandanus leaf - surprisingly sweet - and hard to stop eating. Removed our shoes and dedicated our lives for the benefit of all living beings (my version of Buddhism) - our 3 year old was not keen. There was traditional costume, and a display of dancing. Later, a well respected monk - or Maha-Thera- walked around the grounds blessing people with drops of water - and a long stick. It was nice to be blessed - if a little unexpected! All money raised on the day donated to the foundation, a worthy cause.
